If ‘Enhanced’ has u baffled; Arena Football, WHA hockey, Portland Mavericks of Northwest League (of the doc ‘The Battered Bastards Of Baseball’) may make u wonder if/where misfits get a chance. And now u have an answer- this ‘Enhanced Chance”’ event.
Does 1 mistake, or several mistakes, disqualify an athlete (athletic careers are short; even a ‘short’ ban… is effectively a lifetime ban)? Bans cd have been for poor admin (missed appointments), weak paperwork (filing docs late), ‘bad behaviour’ (see the ‘Battered’ doc for how little it took for mgmt / owners to label a talented athlete untouchable). Pete Rose, Shoeless Joe remained untouchable long after passing. Powerful people atop a pyramid locked’em out, kept’em down. Yes a ban cd be due to a violation wrt tested ‘substances’. But – see examples wrt Contac C, that list is not complete, or nec. correct.
“History is written by….” the people with money & political clout. Credible sports writers argue we cd/shd rewrite the Olympic wins of a couple famed 1980s USA track athletes, most 1990’s East European cyclists & cross country skiers. Beckie Scott fought tooth & nail to get history rewritten. Most athletes just admit the system is flawed, move on. But this issue is far less B&W than history will write it up as. So I for one am happy to see a miscellany of misfits get a chance to strut their stuff during their too-short career.
As for sponsors -tough call! What brand wd overtly stand w such a quirky, volatile org in what’s certainly the very earliest stage of ‘misfit recognition’? Will the misfit movement really fly? The brave, crazy City of Vegas is a fine fit -sure. Beyond that… whom? Why not check these games out, even if just to see which brands back them- to paraphrase Melissa Etheridge: are they Brave? Or Crazy?
